What are my options?
We said earlier, there is a sea of options to choose from, and you need something that can work for you. That means, evaluate your needs, and gather what the focus of your site should be. Let’s take a minute to weigh the options:
You’ll need a few things, either you or your webmaster can provide:
- A domain name.
- This is the name that will show up in the top most field in your web browser.
- Domains can be difficult to choose. Take time to find the right domain for your site. Depending on the domain name, your prices may range from as little as $10 to thousands of dollars.
- Example: google.com
- Hosting account in
- After you buy a domain name you need to find a place to put your website where people can reach it. this is known as website hosting, and there are many companies that do this for different prices in different levels of quality of service.
- This is an area especially, if you’re not sure about what you’re doing, to get some professional help.
Once you get those two things in order, you’ve laid down the basics in order to have a website.
In the next tutorial, I’ll talk about some free services, and the differences between free, almost free, and paid. Happy surfing!
